I'm not sure that this will be the right venue for this discussion or not and hope I don't step on anyone's toes, but with the effort now underway to define what is acceptable for the new SU.com, I was thinking that we may need to get some moderators over there sooner than later.

Since we already have 3 other sites with reputation at this point, I think we have a great base for trusted users. If the goal of SU is to maintain the Q&A format we've all grown to love and hate at times, then why not start with some mods that have the experience already.

If our current SO, SF, and META mods do not have mod access on SU, I think that they should. I also think it would be great to nominate some folks in this post for mod duties.

I think you forgot to CW – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:19
I have to admit the Rep cap is going to make it hard to pick up someone on the site at this point. I didn't even realise I hit it in the fist 2 - 3 hours of the site being open. – Diago Jul 15 '09 at 18:26

Diago: It has only taken a couple weeks for some of us to hit over 3,000 rep on Meta, and that is for a site that generally won't have a lot of activity once things start winding down. SuperUser is going to have a much larger audience, so the number of 3,000+ rep users is going to grow pretty fast. – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:27
@TheTXI Fair enough, I will admit it was kinda nice to be the 3rd highest person on the last for about 2 hours thought. Should have taken a screenshot. :) – Diago Jul 15 '09 at 18:35
@Diago I did when I hit the front USERS page of SU :-) .. If you are part time and come later to the party. I find it hard to get reputation on SO. I fully expect to my place to drop down on SU really quickly. – Bruce McLeod Jul 16 '09 at 10:16
@Bruce - I have actually hit the top list for 2 days running until I get capped. Then I end up at the bottom again :) Being in the wrong timezone doesn't help either. – Diago Jul 17 '09 at 8:03

Apparently my cult of pony-loving followers is stronger than I imagined. – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:24

@TheTXI: You make good impressions on folks :) – Chester Jul 15 '09 at 18:24

But in all seriousness, if I were to become a mod, I would be as professional as humanly possible about it. I'm already quite active during the day time, so I guess that is at least one positive quality. – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:25

Agreed... ..... ..... – Chester Jul 15 '09 at 18:26

"Quite active" -- HAHA yeah right. I have seen pics that prove otherwise. – Geoffrey Chetwood Jul 15 '09 at 18:27
Rich B: I can be as active as I want on the internet without moving a single muscle. I have already engineered one of those computer socket hookups directly to my brain so that I don't even have to move a mouse or type on a keyboard! – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:29
@TheTXI: That is not a matter of want, that is a matter of need. You couldn't lift your arms to save your life! – Geoffrey Chetwood Jul 15 '09 at 18:35
+1 As long as he leaves his ponies on meta and doesn't see SU as a trashcan.... Then again, he will be master of the trashcan :) – Diago Jul 15 '09 at 18:36
The ponies go wherever I go, but I promise that they will make every attempt possible -not- to soil the new carpeting. – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:37
@Diago: Well, TheTXI already lives in a trashcan like Oscar the Grouch, so it sounds perfect for him. – Geoffrey Chetwood Jul 15 '09 at 18:38

I voted for TheTXI because if he becomes a mod, all my officially-licensed TheTXI gear will become much more valuable. – Hilarious Comedy Pesto Jul 15 '09 at 18:43

Wow. 1 hour from suggestion to nomination to action. I'm impressed. – lc Jul 15 '09 at 19:44

Nomination: Jonathan Sampson

He is currently the top user on the site and is doing a great job for the community IMHO.

+1 Agreed. His been taking a lot of abuse at the moment as well. – Diago Jul 17 '09 at 8:04

+1 For example, he's posted a few very helpful links to duplicate, or kind of duplicate, questions, like superuser.com/questions/3526/how-do-you-backup-your-data/… and superuser.com/questions/5873/… Note that he's also asked quite a lot of "poll-like" question, which seem to be loved at SO and SU (but are just not my cup of tea). – Arjan Jul 17 '09 at 9:05
I'm flattered :) Thanks for the nomination, guys. – Jonathan Sampson Jul 27 '09 at 19:35

I would have imagined that Joel would have already been made a mod for SuperUser, but I guess that is wrong now that I look at the User rankings. I don't see why people like him and Kyle and Gravell and Bill don't get made auto-mods of all the sites personally. – TheTXI Jul 15 '09 at 18:28
WTF? Since when does Joel have an unnatural love for ponies? – Geoffrey Chetwood Jul 15 '09 at 18:43

Nope: just meta, and that just because I was at UV. I think meta has more than enough sheriffs to go around. I'm not averse to doing SU, but I don't really know that I'll spend enough time there to be effective. – Joel Coehoorn Jul 15 '09 at 20:14

It's early yet, but he's currently in the top 5 on superuser and so is likely to be active there, and he's also a mod for serverfault, which is good because I expect a lot of questions to move back and forth. – Joel Coehoorn Jul 16 '09 at 16:57

He's already well trusted in the community and as a moderator on SO can manage questions that may need to be moved easily.

Also he is right now one of the top 3 SU users – Diago Jul 17 '09 at 16:55
