This question http://superuser.com/questions/14096/can-we-change-a-theme-in-wordpress-com of very poor quality just got moved from stackoverflow.

hi /// Can we change theme in wordpress.com

exemple : urblog.wordpress.com

I think that this question should have just been closed, or edited to a higher quality when it was migrated.

Did this just "slip through the net", or is there a danger that Superuser.com going to become a dumping ground for questions from stack overflow.

This is especially an issue at the moment with no 10k+ users who can fix up the content.

the main reason that I ask is that I want to try an keep the quality of superuser as high as possible.

Thoughts ?

This question got migrated. Obviously, MSU is a MSO dumping ground! – Andrew Grimm Mar 13 '11 at 1:12

Yeah, it's a dumping ground, but I don't consider that a bad thing.

Now what is the good part of the dumping ground? Get the mess out of SO and ignore SU? – Ladybug Killer Jul 28 '09 at 13:10

The good part is that there should be a place for those questions to go. Many of them are legitimate computer questions that just don't happen to fit elsewhere. Superuser is a very generic site, so items not falling in the other more specific categories should be welcome in superuser. – Brian Knoblauch Jul 28 '09 at 14:21
Legitimate questions have nothing to do with trash. There should be a better place for them as a dumping ground. So I consider it a bad thing. – Ladybug Killer Jul 30 '09 at 6:28

True trash needs to be deleted, not shuffled off to another board, or worse yet, turned into a "community wiki". "Community wiki" is becoming quite the dumping ground lately. – Brian Knoblauch Jul 30 '09 at 11:26

This is why SU needs more moderators. The question obviously did not belong on SO, and could have belonged on SU... but as you note, it should have been cleaned up or closed immediately.

funny, the referenced question would be very likely be migrated to SU. – Oscar Reyes Jul 28 '09 at 1:14
well, now we have 3 moderators -- TheTXI, splattne, and TheGeek. A fourth will be chosen over the next week. – Jeff Atwood Jul 31 '09 at 10:57

I don't think this is a "dumping ground" problem. That question got migrated because enough people think it belongs on SU, not because it was poorly phrased.

That questions about using wordpress belong on SU I don't dispute, but that such a poor quality question was just moved over without editing is my main concern. – Bruce McLeod Jul 28 '09 at 3:22

I disagree; that question is not really computer related. It's wordpress website support related. – Jeff Atwood Jul 28 '09 at 3:22
@Jeff: That raises the question of where that stuff belongs. A lot of people will argue that blog themes aren't programming related. (I have no experience with Wordpress themes, so I'll respectfully decline to comment on it.) – Bill the Lizard Jul 28 '09 at 3:56

@Jeff It depends how you interpret "computer software" in the superuser FAQ .. and since you wrote the FAQ I am guessing that your interperation is correct :-) – Bruce McLeod Jul 28 '09 at 4:07

Ideally, it would have been edited before migrating it, but I guess it's a race between those who edit and those who close/migrate. If it's closed too fast, it falls to the SuperUser side to edit it. However, take heart in the fact that there should be more SU moderators showing up soon.

Firewall blocked some features of the program is an interesting one. The way I read it, he's asking a development question (his new build does not work with his firewall). That seems like an SO question to me.

I guess that SU and SO/SF will have the same relationship the Earth have with Jupiter. By having a lower hanging fruit for bad questions to be asked, SO/SF will keep cleaner. That also hints that SU will far more moderation attention once it goes out of beta (you could argue that it already does).

This question is one that should not have been migrated from SO. The keywords in the subject and first sentence are Software Development. If that's not SO material then I don't know what is.

Heh... yeah, that should have just been closed. It's a duplicate (of at least a couple different existing questions) – Shog9 Jul 28 '09 at 2:12
Yeah, it should have just been closed as a dupe, but I think a few people knee-jerked the close count for "migrate to SU" up to 2 or 3 off the bat before realizing it was a dupe. – gnovice Jul 28 '09 at 3:41
