Today I noticed that my SuperUser profile had a different name and eMail address in it, so I changed this to what it should be (I'm glad that SuperUser now supports plussed addressing in eMail local-parts).

I'm concerned that my correcting of my profile might inadvertently cause problems for other profiles if the changes I observed for my account were the result of a bug.

I'm also concerned because I recall this happened once before (at least 6 months ago, possibly closer to a year), but I believe that less information had changed back then.

Thanks in advance for any insight as to what may have caused this problem for my account, and a special thanks to @Sathya in chat for mentioning that it looks like there was an account merge operation recently (2011-Oct-17).

My account name was changed (not by me) to "Complicated see bio." See this message (I'm now worried about SuperUser.com's security): meta.superuser.com/questions/3663/… – Randolf Richardson Nov 7 '11 at 15:02

From your account info, we(read me & DMA) had merged your accounts in the past since you had problems with OpenID and were running on a cookie-based account.

Since then there have been no manual merges - I'm not certain why there was an auto-merge on Oct 17.. I'll leave this open for one of the Stack Exchange devs to have a look at this - hopefully they can shed some light on this.

Ah yes, that's right. I also remember that Stack Exchange's OpenID system had just come into beta at the time, and using it solved most of the headaches. – Randolf Richardson Nov 7 '11 at 6:53
