Jan 31, 2018 at 11:00 comment added Prasanna @TFM don't you think the [question] you specified will qualify for This question does not show enough research effort to attract down-votes? I'm unable to see when the question was posted... Looks like it was edited in 2015

Jan 25, 2013 at 4:13 comment added Canadian Luke Although I can't find the question anymore, I did edit a question that was down voted to -6, answered the question, and all of a sudden: close votes stopped, I got lots of upvotes, and many of the downvotes were removed! Downvoting is good if the question doesn't need closing, but still doesn't show any effort of trying.

Jan 24, 2013 at 9:24 comment added Journeyman Geek Mod meta.stackexchange.com/questions/90324/… entirely relevant to the discussion. To an extent, the current policy of free question downvotes is entirly to encourage a certain class of downvoting.
Jan 24, 2013 at 8:32 comment added TFM There are no "dumb" questions. There are "poorly formulated" or "poorly written" questions. Check for example this question. Everybody over the age 30 would probably know what the A: and B: drives are for, right? So the question may sound "dumb", but it does NOT matter, as long as you can ask it nicely. The 500+ up-votes the question has gotten is a fine proof of it.
Jan 24, 2013 at 7:07 comment added Daniel Beck Mod Since it's relevant here: On meta sites, down votes can also indicate disagreement with a question in some way.

Jan 24, 2013 at 1:59 comment added Keltari yes, in addition to them. As i stated in the question, the OP can update the question to meet the requirements, but the down-votes dont change.
