Jul 3 at 23:19 comment added user705502 I think many that contributed to this thread disagree. But carry on, I'll just remove them again. Instead EDIT the question or vote to close. I will now ignore you or I'll run the risk of becoming very unfriendly. IMO your actions are idiotic.
Jul 3 at 22:56 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen Adding more to the pile is better than missing questions.
Jul 3 at 22:45 comment added user705502 Yes, existing tagged questions should be rewritten or closed to get rid of the tag. You're just adding more to the pile. If you look at some of the questions you tagged, I untagged some that could be rewritten by changing two words. And that's what you should have done IMO rather than add the tag.
Jul 3 at 22:42 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen it's the question. The answer says "Can the question be rewritten to ask for a technique rather than a tool? If so, then it should be rewritten. If not, then it's probably not right for us."
Jul 3 at 21:46 comment added user705502 "Could we finally get rid of [software-rec]?" is about the tag.
Jul 3 at 21:38 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen The questions are undesired. The tag allows to find and fix.
Jul 3 at 21:20 comment added user705502 you have time to go through dozens of questions and add the tag though?! meanwhile question with undesired tag grows due to your doing.
Jul 3 at 21:17 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen no time to edit. Retagging allows others to see which questions needs to be rephrased/closed/removed/etc.
Jul 3 at 21:16 comment added user705502 @FranckDernoncourt - THAT'S MY POINT!! Do that rather than adding the useless tag.
Jul 3 at 21:14 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen Many software recommendation request can be rewritten to ask for a technique rather than a tool.
Jul 3 at 21:13 comment added user705502 @FranckDernoncourt - if it's software recommendation request then close vote is warranted, else edit question.
Jul 3 at 21:08 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen Blindly close voting goes against that answer. "Can the question be rewritten to ask for a technique rather than a tool? If so, then it should be rewritten. If not, then it's probably not right for us." Retagging allows others to see which questions needs to be rephrased/closed/removed/etc.
Jul 3 at 20:51 comment added user705502 @FranckDernoncourt - it makes no sense adding the tag you want to get rid of, either vote close or edit the question.
Jul 3 at 17:03 comment added Franck Dernoncourt @JoepvanSteen Oliver is suggesting to try to rephrase software-rec questions before removing the software-rec tag. My retagging allows us to see which questions needs to be rephrased/closed/removed/etc.
Jul 3 at 12:29 comment added user705502 Hmm, a certain someone by the name of @Franck Dernoncourt has been adding the tag to a number of questions lately. I have reverted some of those edits by trying to edit questions to not be software recommendation requests.
Feb 19, 2018 at 0:49 comment added Robotnik If we're moving to remove [software-rec] then I feel your example question would be better served tagged as [computational-chemistry]. What do you think?

Jul 6, 2016 at 18:54 comment added Braiam I edited the example question you use, focusing on the task at hand instead of the "tool" to solve the problem.
Jan 13, 2015 at 12:56 comment added killermist I think that the first question you linked is a perfect example of something off-topic that is trying to masquerade as on-topic. It is essentially a chemistry question, so possibly science or math. The coincidence occurs that solutions might tend to be a computer program, if one exists.
