In the past, there were strong reasons for the choices that had to be made while for formatting a new drive, and the system administrators sometimes had damn good reasons for a particular choice. Two decades ago I did a lot of system administration, so I know very well that what I'm talking about. If the formatting choices do not matter that much nowadays, should "it's up to you, both are fine" be an answer rather "opinion-based" being a close reason?
