To try and explain what I'd like to find (which I had thought not readily doable in a sound-bite), I posted a rather lengthy question earlier today that was closed for being off-topic. One person suggested that I "distill down your question to something answerable without giving us your life story. Focus on a technical aspect of the software." which [I think I've now done][1], and I'd like to see it reopened if the only problem was the length.

I realize that it's certainly a software-rec question which I saw [another post on meta][2] about. That author tried to make their question less "software-reccy" and thereby got it reopened. I'm not sure if I've made my question any less "software-reccy" (after all, I am indeed looking for software recommendations), but I have made the question less lengthy. So does it qualify for reopening now? Or are all software-rec tagged questions somehow implicitly off-topic here?
