It may not be "fair" to lock comments, but the question is entirely off topic for this site and the comments were not doing anything to change that. If the comments had been "you can edit your question to be on topic" or "try this other site where your question may be on topic" then fine, but they were not. The comments were ...

It's not about the reputation, or at least not all about the reputation. Answering questions and building up the knowledge base is the purpose. So if you already know the answer, and you are struggling to contact original poster, I would recommend you to answer your own question on https://softwarerecs.stackexchange.com/. You can quote the %username% of ...

Personally I would advocate removing the "please help me soon, I'm dying" comments. The more we allow these style of comments then the more potential it has for being abused. Instead of giving favourable treatment to the elderly/ill/soon to be deceased we should be looking to be completely neutral and fair to every user. We are not a medical support group ...

I wouldn't consider such a question fundamentally exceptional - with regards to the eventual mortality of the poster. There's a few aspects I'd consider - I'm sorry if some of these points sound harsh, but I'd rather consider cold hard logic before emotions. Question/Post not people Besides the fact that the OP is terminally ill, does the post have ...

Marking an answer as accepted is purely optional and the mark is never set automatically. A question is treated as "answered" once an answer was marked as accepted or when any other receives an upvote.

I believe the issue here is not whether or not the comments were appropriate or not, but rather the speed at which the actions were taken. I really think the timing is the issue here. But first, this… “This user (Mokubai) should be banned in my opinion.” I might have sympathy towards your point of view, but if you truly believe that someone should be ...

First I'll answer your question. 1) Most questions do not require you to have points to answer. Some (protected questions) do, but many allow you to answer now. So find some questions that you know the answer to and help some people out (each upvote is worth 10 points)! 2) Ask good questions. If you ask questions that people think are worth their time, ...

Keep in mind that what follows below is just my opinion, and you may agree/disagree with parts of it. Feel free to comment or provide your own answer. I don't think there is any way we can (or should) treat questions differently based on the user asking it, or their situation. Recall that this site's primary goal is to build a repository of knowledge in the ...

Looks like an account merge with a much older account. I'm too sleepy to actually do more digging, but the rep seems to be from an old question from waaaaaay back, deleted but around enough to keep the rep.

The user's Reputation tab gives us some clues. 100 rep for association bonus, and then as @Journeyman Geek has suggested, reputation which was obtained from a deleted question, which hasn't been removed via the SQL maintenance tasks. We can use the Wayback Machine to see what the question was, and how the reputation was allocated. Here's a snapshot of the ...

Why does Windows think that my wireless keyboard is a toaster? That user had a bounty on the question on that date. What are the Windows A: and B: drives used for? Last edit to the question How can I remove malicious spyware, malware, adware, viruses, trojans or rootkits from my PC? Last edit to an answer Whether that's sensible to show, I don't know. ...

In my opinion, at least a few of his questions could be closed as off-topic if they aren't specifically asking something along the lines of "How can I change the configuration of my Captive Portal so that it can connect to iOS?". If his question is about doing stuff on iOS to make iOS devices work with a given WiFi captive portal, that sounds like it would ...
