How to defend new users from unconstructive downvoting
How to Ask not being shown definitely needs to be changed, and I agree about the pity voting as well. A short comment and even help with editing should be enough of a pointer to the new user, but sometimes a question just begs to be downvoted, with reasons that should be obvious. Also, not a justification for not leaving comments by any means, but just want to note that negative votes do not have any effect on a new user's rep (since rep can't fall below 1). Psychological effect is another thing altogether of course.

Why was my post removed?
Having seen your deleted post, it was removed for good reason. You should read the Help pages and familiarise yourself with how this site works. It's mean to be strictly Q&A only. No lengthy back and forth discussions etc. since this is not a forum. If you had tested Photo Viewer more and confirmed it as the culprit, you could have focussed on that and it would have made for a valid answer.

Not so much a question as a lengthy commentary/anecdote about how it happened to him as well. No real answer as such.

First of all this belongs on Meta.SU, which needs a mere 5 rep to post in. Anyway, it'll be migrated there. Next, can you link to your previous question?

Should questions related to problems with beta software/prototype hardware be closed?
You can list below specific instances of abuse or flag for a mod to take a look. I haven't come across any such cases yet since this went live.

As part of a test run this close reason is live on the site. Let's see how the community uses it.

Images that are wider than 640px
Adding to my previous comment: Quite a few times I've seen people getting irritated at the OP for supposedly posting unintelligible screenshots. I had to tell them how the site visually auto-resized large images and how opening an image by itself (
right-click / View Image
in FF) would solve the problem. Browsers like IE don't even have a View Image option, so one needs to go to the image's Properties, copy the URL and then open it. All this unnecessary aggravation can be easily avoided with an auto-generated "click to enlarge" link, so what is the problem with implementing this?

Didn't recive mortarboard badge
Unless you were kidding, no it's not. 100 rep is significantly easier to achieve than double that amount, and clubbing the association bonus along with it is not fair by any means. The bonus is obviously a sort of reward in itself.

User was removed and I get negative points?
@DaveRook: I agree. I think this sort of thing is just ridiculous unless it was a sock puppet that was deleted.

Hope you don't mind, I just made a small edit and removed "on". Since the word "bugs" applies to both, "bugs in pre-release/beta software" sounds fine but "bugs on prototype hardware" doesn't. So... now do we wait for others to chime in or are you gonna just go ahead and implement this? (Or does it have to be done by the devs?)

What I was trying to say is that "pre-release" implies "pre (prior to) release to manufacturing", whereas "unreleased" to me means "never been released". That's why I felt that "unreleased" perhaps shouldn't be used.

Are pre-RTM releases "unreleased products"? I would modify that a bit, but on the whole it looks ok. How about: "Questions about bugs in pre-release/beta software or prototype hardware are off-topic. Bugs in such products are common and even expected, and are often fixed before the final version is released — at which point the question becomes obsolete. Consider reporting these types of problems directly to the product manufacturer."
