I want to ask someone for a clarification of his answer to a question of superuser. But when I try to ask the question, it says I need a "level 50 privilege", whatever that is. Is this a paid-subscription website?

1Please take the Tour then read What is reputation? How do I earn (and lose) it?, Why do I need 50 reputation to comment? What can I do instead?– DavidPostill ModSep 15, 2015 at 19:55

@Arkanon There is no FAQ for Super User. Perhaps you meant the Help Center?– DavidPostill ModSep 15, 2015 at 19:59

In short, reputation points are earned by positively contributing to the community. Post a good question or answer? The question or answer gets up-voted and you earn reputation points. And more simply, you can suggest edits to questions as well as answers and if the edits are accepted? You get reputation points. Once you get 50+ reputation points you can comment. Why 50+ reputation points? Easy. This site focuses on quality content; not impulsive content. The small price you pay to be a part of this community is to help it become better. No paid-subscription model here; just people helping.– Giacomo1968Sep 15, 2015 at 20:11

No this is not a subscription based website. You need to have a certain reputation for posting comments. This is simply to ensure the quality of the site.
As @DavidPostill suggested. Please refer to the help section:
What is reputation? How do I earn (and lose) it?
Why do I need 50 reputation to comment? What can I do instead?
Posted this as an answer in the light of making sure everyone else interested notices it.

3Please do not respond to off topic questions like this. This does not belong on the main site and you are not helping the situation by encouraging/rewarding such posts. Sep 15, 2015 at 19:59

3There is no need to answer off-topic questions. Especially by copying my comments :/– DavidPostill ModSep 15, 2015 at 20:01

1@Dzoni - How do you figure? Questions like this should be simply migrated, then on the correct website, answered if you so desire.– RamhoundSep 15, 2015 at 22:15

2I donno. While its in the site help section clearly the OP hadn't read it, and posting an answer was the obvious thing to do. And the answer would be migrated too. The biggest concequence of posting answers to OT questions ought to be loss of rep on migration, IMO.– Journeyman Geek ModSep 15, 2015 at 23:50

3@JourneymanGeek I think that answering a question like this in the wrong place does encourage bad posting behavior. That said, now this answer is appropriate… Other than the fact that all Dzoni did was post a comment and swiped DavidPostill’s links. Sep 16, 2015 at 0:20
