@fixer1234 It has shortcomings but the number of upvotes it received shows it was useful to many users. If you look at stackoverflow.com/users/2478933/manu97?tab=reputation the upvotes didn't come from HNQ but a consistent appreciative readership.

@fixer1234 Here is one example where an image-only answer has been massively upvoted: How is Docker different from a normal virtual machine?

@Ramhound If i.stack.imgur.com disappears, there'd be some serious uproars as many posts depend on images and .gif. I believe the guideline is to assume images stored on i.stack.imgur.com will never be removed (at worst, moved to some other location, in which case links would be updated).

Can we be nicer to folks whose English isn't that great?
@JourneymanGeek In your comment "There's nothing worse than vague complaints." only adds negative/aggressive noise. That's the kind of things I am talking about, and is too often present on Stack Exchange.

I think the title could be "Can we be nicer". At least, neutral. My experience is that many interactions on this website aren't that friendly/neutral. (I'm not here to make friends, but aggressive comments may deviate the attention from the question/answer.)

Can any software recommendation question be made on-topic by simply asking "how"?
I guess it means that any question that is on-topic on the software recommendation website is also on topic here, provided it is rephrased as how and about interacting with computers?

Thanks. ok for opinion (your first point) and too broad/specialized (your third and fourth points). Regarding your second point, aside from being too broad, rephrasing it as a "how" question would make it on-topic I believe, since it would solve some issue. So basically if a software recommendation question isn't too subjective, broad or specialized, then one can rephrase it to make it on-topic?

Can't one rephrase a list of requirements as how to do X under constraints Y?

@MichaelFrank Thanks. I went through the page but I don't know whether the answer is yes or no.

What is our stance on questions “Is there any software that can do X or can it be achieved natively with Windows"?
Thanks. Does this mean any software recommendation question can be made on-topic by simply asking "how"?

Why was this question closed as "Questions seeking product, service, or learning material recommendations"?
According to What is our stance on questions on Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems? there is no community consensus saying that EMR systems aren't on-topic.
