The tag preview has an ambiguity problem. It has no tag wiki and is often misapplied in place of better, more specific tags.
AboutFor example, about half of the questions tagged with it are about Preview, the image and PDF viewer in OS X, for which there exists preview.app. There are other various uses ofAlso, the tag inis applied to questions about previews of new versions of Windows (for which there are existing tags),and MS Office Preview, previewing images or rendered code in different image/text editors, print previews, etc. It's all over the mapfor which there are tags already.
My feeling is that havingIt appears in questions about various other contexts for which a more general tag for OS X Preview is perfectly reasonable and helpfulsufficient. All the other uses of preview really add nothing
This tag needs to the questionsbe burned.
I suggest we go through and remove or replace the tag as appropriate for each question. The most likely replacement tags are
- rename the tag osx-preview or maybe mac-preview to prevent future misapplication of the tag, preview.app
- write a tag wiki explaining the proper usage of the tag, andwindows-10-preview
- remove the tag fromwindows-8.1-preview
- windows-8-preview
- office-2013-preview
Related minor tag that should also be burned:
- print-preview: 5 questions where it is misapplied.
There are only 102 questions tagged preview now, so this should be a relatively quick problem to fix.
