Why can't I flag a particular question as off-topic?
Completely understood the lock, and on the other stacks I participate I too hate to see items that provide benefit to at least part of the community removed. Keep up the good work.

Sorry I missed that, I should have done a googled instead of just searching the meta questions, apparently I need to go home.

Would it be worth it to flag and state why I feel it is off topic? I'm happy to risk the rejected flag, but don't want to waste a mod's time.

Should I flag questions as off-topic if they are already upvoted and answered?
By being here it is brought to their attention. Playing Devil's Advocate: 1. There may be no path to migrate to Software Recommendations. 2. In general recommendation requests are of low long term value. (See my answer on Meta here meta.stackexchange.com/a/131432/183443). As it is the community will see it and hopefully a migration path can be found in the future.

You analogy is inept. Migration to Software Recommendations would have preserved the content without flooding the stacks.

+ for "Better to find a better fit & move the thread to a better location, than to delete & trash the collective efforts of people."

One more possibly useful tidbit gone from the Interwebs...

What is the difference between Super User and Stack Overflow?
Only add that SO is about specific issues while programming, for general questions related to programming there is the poorly named Programmers.se
